Accurst is a conceptual project exploring the nightmares of existence and the horrors of the subconscious through sound and music experimentation. A Phantom’s Noctuary is the follow-up to Accurst’s now infamous debut, Fragments of a Nightmare; an album so chilling that it featured prominently in the score of the 2012 Scott Derrickson horror film Sinister.
Influenced by the 19th century Decandence literary movement, A Phantom’s Noctuary stands as a true masterwork of ambiance, atmosphere, and sheer musical and audial expression. Expanding on the sordid soundscapes of its predecessor, the album unfolds as a horrifying narrative told through various stylistic approaches. Consisting of a single, 44-minute track, A Phantom’s Noctuary is a twisting, winding meditation blending together seamlessly cavernous Dark Ambient, seething Death Industrial and Neoclassical elements with theatrical aplomb.
Demonstrating perfectly that the journey is as important as the destination, Accurst have created an album of immense ominous intensity and a truly unique experience of self-exploration.
